Frequently Asked Questions

Septic Tank

A septic tank is an underground tank where domestic wastewater is collected. Solid matter settles at the bottom, and liquid matter moves forward for further processing. It is a type of primary wastewater treatment unit.

Although it depends on the size of the septic tank, the number of users, and water usage habits, generally it should be cleaned once every 3 years. If usage is high, it may need cleaning sooner.

If the following signs appear, the septic tank may need cleaning: 1. Slow drainage or blockage in the toilet. 2. Foul odor from sinks or bathrooms. 3. Lush, excessively grown grass near drainage pipes or around the septic tank. 4. Waterlogging observed near the septic tank lid.

Solapur Municipal Corporation uses a Vacuum Truck (Vacuum Emptier) for cleaning septic tanks. This truck sucks out the sludge and wastewater from the tank and then transports it to the Municipal Corporation's Sewage Treatment Plant for scientific disposal.

Waste Management

For cleaning a septic tank, within the limits of Solapur city, the cost is Rs. 1200 per trip (for 3000 liters). If it is outside the city limits, the cost is Rs. 2400 per trip (plus Rs. 12 per km). Cleaning a septic tank within city limits may take up to 4 days, and for those outside, it may take up to 7 days.

Avoid putting the following substances into the septic tank, as they can hinder its efficiency: Oil, grease, and fat. Plastic, cloth, or non-degradable materials. Medicines and chemicals. Excessive amounts of detergent or bleach.

After cleaning the septic tank, wait at least 2 to 3 hours before using water, so that the tank dries completely.

"1. Conserve water, which will prevent overloading the tank. 2. Avoid putting unnecessary items into the tank. 3. Get it inspected and cleaned by professional agencies at appropriate times. 4. Do not place heavy objects or park vehicles over the tank area.

Mobile Toilet

A Mobile Toilet, or portable toilet, is a portable toilet facility that can be easily used at various locations. It provides sanitation facilities to people in public places, especially during festivals, events, or other large gatherings.

Visit the office of the Sanitation Superintendent (Vehicles) at Sakhar Peth in Solapur Municipal Corporation in person, pay the fee and deposit amount, and register.

A Mobile Toilet should be requested at least 8 days in advance, so that its availability can be ensured.

The fee for using a Mobile Toilet for 1 day is Rs. 5000/-. For usage beyond one day, the fee is Rs. 2500/- per day. Additionally, a refundable security deposit of Rs. 5000/- must be submitted to the Municipal Corporation.
